The Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, led the private sector to study modern agricultural techniques in Israel

Phnom Penh: Mr. Veng Sakhon, the Minister of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries, led the private sector to study and understand the important experience of leading and implementing modern agricultural techniques in Israel.

On this occasion, The visit provided an opportunity for the Cambodian private sector to meet with the leaders of major Israeli companies to discuss investment opportunities in the agricultural sector.

During his four-day visit to Israel on August 27to 31 2022. Mr. Veng Sakhon met with Oded Forer, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development of Israel. During the talks, Israel will consider supporting training centers and demonstrating advanced agricultural technologies such as irrigation, drip irrigation, netting, and agribusiness to Cambodia.

The two ministers focused on better agricultural development and increasing human resources by including third-year Cambodian students studying in Israel.

Mr. Veng Sakhon said that cooperation between the two sides has further strengthened ties. The Israeli government recently agreed to a request from the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries to increase the quota of 50 students to a total of 250 per year.

On August 29, Mr. Veng Sakhon traveled to the Center for International Cooperation (Jerusalem International Cooperation, ICC) to present diplomas to 200 Cambodian students. After completing 11 months of agricultural technical training in Israel in the academic year of 2021-2022.

At the graduation ceremony, the Cambodian Minister thanked AgroStudies for its excellent cooperation with the Royal University of Agriculture in human resource development by accepting third-year students from universities and national agricultural institutes in the whole Country to train in Israel.

On the third day On August 30- 2022. Mr. Veng Sakhon went to Netafim to learn about modern agricultural techniques related to net houses. Including water use in agriculture and drip irrigation systems. The Minister of Agriculture requested that Netafim examine the possibility of cooperating with the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries of Cambodia in preparing rice demonstrations using modern irrigation systems at rice seed production stations.

Currently, the implementation of drip irrigation systems on farms has been widely developed due to the many benefits of this technology. The use of small amounts of water is aimed at controlling the growth of useless plants, and the growth of bacteria and fungi well. Targeted fertilizer application will be highly effective for the crop.

The last day of the visit was on August 31, Mr. Veng Sakhon and his colleagues traveled to BIOBEE (Biological System). The company has implemented measures to control pesticides in crop production through the use of Integrated Pest Management (IPM).

The company researches and breeds a variety of beneficial insects in crops such as vegetables, cabbage, tomatoes, and fruit trees such as avocados, cocoa, oranges, and ornamental plants. These beneficial insects will be able to effectively control pests without harming the environment and polluting crops around the world.

According to the Minister of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries of Cambodia, all these technologies are suitable for production in Cambodia, such as vegetables, leaves, tomatoes, cashews, mangoes, avocados, etc.

At the same time, he also asked AgroStudies and BIOBEE to help send and accept Cambodian students to study at this company for the new school year 2022-2023 and the upcoming school year.
